Steak tacos with green sauce

The green sauce makes these steak tacos look and taste gourmet. We adapted the recipe from a Cooks Illustrated one for indoor steak tacos.

We took at 1.5-pound sirloin, marinated it in half the recipe of green sauce, grilled it, sliced it and served it on warmed whole wheat flour tortillas with homemade guacamole and sour cream.

Gazpacho

I have never been a huge fan of raw tomatoes but I have recently discovered how delicious gazpacho can be. It is a mixture of raw peppers, garlic, onion and tomatoes all ground up into a "soup." It's very typical in Spain, very delicious, and extraordinarily healthy. Instead of writing the recipe I have made a very poor quality video of myself preparing it this afternoon. I felt very professional until I watched the final result...

Wings that might not kill you

By Nikki

J went grocery shopping with me a few weeks ago and a family pack of chicken wings for less than $6 caught his eye. He thought that given the price, they were a responsible dinner choice. I agreed to see what we could do with them, on the condition that we eat them with cauliflower. OK, cauliflower gratin. I'm pregnant! I need my cheese.

I think we found a way to make the wingies semi healthy. I don't have a picture, but I'll take one next time we make them. Here's the recipe.

A new spin on salad

By Elliott

We often see salad as a first course or a meal supplement, but when eating late, not in the mood to cook, or looking for a light meal a salad, even a high volume salad, can do the trick. This may seem like common sense but we can't forget that a salad can be much more than just lettuce. I thought it would be interesting to assemble a list of salad ideas for avid salad eaters and novice saladsmen alike. Perhaps we can one day convince a certain family member of ours that salad is not only a healthy, necessary part of ones diet but a fun, easy to make, and delicious meal.

Why people eat vegetables

By Nikki

I was browsing the New York Times and eating a bowl of cereal when I came across this article: Even Benefits Don't Tempt Us to Vegetables. It reminded me of two things: 1.) That I hadn't eaten a single serving all day, and 2.) That this blog's inspiration asked me a related question last weekend. The question was something like, "Why do people eat vegetables?" I couldn't come up with a good answer. I eat them sometimes because I like them and they don't make me feel guilty. Turns out there's more to it, as this article explains.
